Lofty Butter Company

Lofty Butter Company was born from a realization that founders, Chad & Marie Miller, had never before seen butter for sale at their local farmers’ market. They took it upon themselves to shake things up in the artisan dairy world and fill this gap, creating Ontario’s first small-batch cultured butter company. Since 2020, they’ve been churning up fresh, flavourful butter that tastes like the good ol’ days.

The difference is in the time-honoured process. Lofty handcrafts their butter using premium Ontario cream which is slowly fermented with live cultures. This fermentation process produces a signature tang, richness, and depth of flavour that mass-produced grocery store butter simply cannot match.

A true family affair, the Millers run their business with a mix of creativity and “stubborn determination.” While Chad is the resident tinkerer and production expert, Marie handles the dreaming and storytelling. They are even joined by their daughters, Tessa and Eadie, who take their roles as official taste-testers very seriously; ensuring that every new product meets the family standard.

From rich crème fraîche to uniquely flavoured compound butter blends, Lofty Butter Company crafts dairy delights that turn everyday moments into something special. Since they operate as a direct-to-consumer artisan producer and are not available in stores, the Great Canadian Cheese Festival is a rare opportunity to experience their artisanal dairy lineup in person.
